Book Club

Hey, are any of you gals readers? What is your favorite book? I'm supposed to take a list of books to my Book Club next month so I need a few suggestions (the club is all women). I have a massive list of books that I want to read personally but not really good ones for a book club. We're going to compile a list and then, as a group, vote on what we read each month for the rest of the year. Anyhoo, suggestions/favorites would be helpful. Thanks!

I LOVE TO READ! Hear are a few of my top favorites, all of which are historical fictions. I love to read something and then be able to ponder about the actual event. 'Follow the River' by James Alexander Thom, this one is about a white woman that is captured in 1755 by Indians and her struggle to return to her people. 'The City of Joy' by Dominique Lapierre, about a man that moves to Calcutta and lives in filth and poverty in order to help the people there. 'The concubine's children' by Denise Chong, about a China man that moves to Canada in order to make a better living for his family and while there takes on an unruly Concubine. 'Life and death in Shanghi' about a womans struggle to survive communist China. And last but not least 'the hidding place' by Corrie Ten Boom, about the Hollicost and the miracles that saved her life. I could go on and on about each of these and send many more suggestions should you need more later. Don't be thrown of by the "historical" aspect of these books, they are very interesting and gripping stories!

Thanks for the great suggestions! A couple of them I've read but several I've never even heard of so I'm excited to read them! I read The Hiding Place (humbling and inspiring) and The Red Tent (enjoyed it once I got past the discussion about Jacob and the other shephards having sex with the sheep in the fields).
I'm almost done with Twilight--I got the book on CD from the library and it kept me totally engrossed while I painted (and then repainted) the living room.
I'm currently in the middle of 3 other books as well: "Marley & Me"--you've probably heard of it. It is utterly fantastic so far, and I'm only 50 pages in.
One of the other books I'm reading is "Bonds That Make Us Free" It's a non-fiction about relationships. I'm having a hard time with it--I'm used to Dr. Laura's style of easy, convincing, repetiveness. I may have to put it away until I'm more mature.

i should probably read marley and me. or have dan do it. still not going well with the dog. i've heard of many lives that were changed by the bonds that make us free. i started it, then started it again but couldn't get into it. maybe one day when i'm more humble.
